Vitamins
Vitamins may be defined as essential dietary factors that are required in small amounts and whose absence results in a deficiency disease.
They are not usually synthesized by the body cells but are necessary for maintenance, growth and reproduction. Vitamins can be classified as fat-soluble or water-soluble. Animals can store fat-soluble vitamins in fat depots, and these vitamins are powerful antioxidants. The diet of animals must contain water-soluble vitamins on a daily basis because they cannot store them.
